STORY of

MESSY CHURCH

CAMBERWELL

ORIGIN of

MESSY CHURCH

CRS  MOTIVATION
  • We come together as a group of people who are concerned at the barriers and injustices that refugees face in surviving in the Australian community.

  • We are deeply distressed at the impact this alienation has on their physical and emotional wellbeing.

  • We want to see refugees treated with humanity and compassion; the rightful expectation for every person living in Australia.

SPREAD of

MESSY CHURCH

One of the original creators of Messy Church was Lucy Moore. A gifted "story-teller" and writer who worked Bible Reading Fellowship (BRF). BRF allowed Lucy to actively promote the  Messy Church model as part of her job. By providing training and resources BRF facilitated other churches to start their own Messy Churches.

BRF now has 4,000 registered Messy Churches in more than 30 different countries which means around 500,000 people now attend a Messy Church each month.

VALUES of

MESSY CHURCH

Lucy teachers that there are five non-negotiable values, core to every Messy Church.

  • Creativity:  everyone making & doing

  • Hospitality: welcoming & sharing a meal

  • Celebration: of God's story &  of each other

  • All Age: for both carers & child

  • Christ-Centred: in all the above

CAMBERWELL

MESSY CHURCH

Camberwell Uniting Church learned about Messy Church when Lucy Moore came to Melbourne in 2011. We watched her DVD, read her books and decided to start our own Messy Church.

We divided up the tasks and responsibilities among us and sought to create a Messy Church we could invite our own grandchildren into to to engage with Bible stories.

Eight years later we rejoice that our grandchildren and many others have been drawn to our monthly church. Today we  embrace Messy Church as an unpredictable but valued congregation of our church community.

COME

JOIN US!

Today our Messy Church at CUC regularly meets monthly throughout  the school year.

At each Messy Church we focus on a story from the Bible, exploring it with much craft, fun and games. A contemporary telling of the story, then occurs in the Celebration time and we conclude by sharing a meal together.

Newcomers are always welcome
